Student Success Story- Leylani Vasquez

Leylani Vasquez is a Junior Mechanical Engineering major and was hired by ASYST Technologies as a Manufacturing Engineering Intern for the Summer of 2024.

What did you work on this summer? ASYST is working on releasing a new automation machine into production. I have been working with the manufacturing engineers to ensure the machine can run at a targeted efficiency. This is done by running tests on different part assemblies, completing documentation, and sample production runs. I have joined a team designated to reach a thematic goal for production. I was assigned a project to conduct a study on specific component parts using Micro-Vu measuring equipment. I studied the interference and dimensions of components that assemble together as a part, and presented my findings to the team.

What’s the best thing about your job?  So far, my favorite thing about my job is the people I get to interact with every day, everyone always says good morning and have been very welcoming. Building relationships with workers on the production floor has been helpful to receive feedback from changed made by the manufacturing team. Another thing is being able to work with automated machines and step into the machine if needed. This job is very hands on and you are able to see how your work can make a difference in a machine or an operators job.

What’s great about your company?  ASYST does an excellent job at making all employees feel seen. Everyone knows each other’s names and are willing to help if you have questions. Although I have only been at ASYST for about two months, I can tell the company cares about their employees.
