Tiffany Trizna is a Junior Electrical Engineering major and was hired by Miller Electric as an Electrical Engineering and Intellectual Property Law Intern for the Summer of 2024.
What did you work on this summer? Over the summer, I worked on a series of four projects at Miller’s precision welding solutions division, starting with a PCB design transformation from all through-hole to primarily surface mounted components for a power board. I had the opportunity to shadow my mentor, Suneesh, for various experiments to obtain any lab/testing techniques he felt would further prepare me heading into junior year. While working with our division’s welders, I compiled a Volt-Amp and efficiency plot for all products, which was shared with the entirety of Miller Welding to aid future design efforts. Next summer, I will continue my final project of analyzing PWS’s high frequency coupling coils while comparing/considering potential ways to improve our current designs and methods.
What’s the best thing about your job? The best part about my electrical internship was my mentors’ willingness to provide a learning environment during my time there. I was extremely nervous of what a first-time internship entailed, but I learned so much during only three months and saw significant growth in both my electrical lab work and conceptual understanding.
What’s great about your company? Miller has set the bar incredibly high as my first internship employer, and I will be returning for a second summer after the 2024-25 year. They have such a welcoming, family-like working environment- from numerous ERGs, opportunities to grow and move throughout divisions, and numerous ways to connect to other family companies, to the best internship program imaginable.
How did you find your internship opportunity? I found my internship via a Job Board (LinkedIn, Indeed, etc.)
How did the Career Connections Center help you with your internship search? I got my initial interview with Miller at the SWE Mingling with Mocktails event after the Fall 2023 Career Fair. Considering I planned the event last year as SWE Fundraising Chair, I know (and appreciate) firsthand how much assistance the Career Connection Center provides our university and its professional development events!
