Brock is a Senior Computer Engineering major who worked at Nordco as a Controls Engineering Intern in the summer of 2025.
What did you work on this summer? This summer I am working on various software and electrical projects. Some of the software tasks that I have been doing is automating a railroad tie counter for a machine to count the number of ties that have been worked on and also working with visualizations to better enhance what the operator of the machine needs. I am also providing electrical support for a spiker test stand, which is used as an automated spiking system. This stand will help test the system’s functionality to ensure it operates effectively for the machine.
What’s the best thing about your job? The best thing about my job is how much I am learning about working in a real-world setting. I am faced with challenges every day, and these challenges help me learn new skills and how to think through them. Another thing about my job that I like is how hands-on it is and being able to go on one of the machines to test something out.
What’s great about your company? What’s great about Nordco is that everybody is willing to help. Everyone was very welcoming, and I felt a part of the team right away. Whenever I had a question about something, they were willing to help me think through it.
How did you find your internship opportunity? I found my internship on a job board.
How did the Career Connections Center help you with your internship search? The Career Connection Center helped me revise my resume for internship opportunities and provided great support along the way!
