We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern to support a variety of municipal infrastructure projects. This internship offers hands-on experience with significant time spent in the field, working alongside engineers, inspectors, and project managers on active construction and public works projects. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, comfortable in outdoor field environments, and interested in a career in municipal or consulting civil engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Field Work (Primary Focus):

  • Assist with on-site observation and inspection of municipal construction projects (roadways, utilities, stormwater systems, and site improvements)
  • Collect field measurements, photos, and documentation for ongoing projects
  • Observe construction activities to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards
  • Assist with surveying, staking, or layout as directed
  • Interact professionally with contractors, municipal staff, and engineering team members

Office / Project Support:

  • Support engineers with plan preparation, calculations, and design tasks
  • Assist with preparation of reports, field logs, and construction documentation
  • Review drawings, specifications, and quantities
  • Organize project records and assist with data entry or basic CAD revisions as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering or related engineering program (freshman through senior level students encouraged to apply)
  • Basic understanding of civil engineering principles or coursework
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites

Preferred Skills (Not Required):

  • Experience with AutoCAD or Civil 3D
  • Familiarity with construction processes or materials
  • Prior field or internship experience in civil engineering or construction
