Are you an Electrical Engineering student looking to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to real-world industrial applications? Do you want hands-on experience designing electrical control systems and seeing your work move from engineering into manufacturing?
At Bevco Engineering, we’re looking for an Electrical Engineering Intern to join our engineering team for a full-time summer internship. This position provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on real customer projects while developing practical skills in electrical control system design, component selection, engineering documentation, testing, and manufacturing support.
This is a hands-on internship designed for a junior or senior-level Electrical Engineering student interested in gaining practical engineering experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Design & Project Support
- Assist Electrical Engineers with electrical control panel projects from design through release to manufacturing.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, and engineering requirements with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Assist with the development of power distribution and control circuits.
- Support electrical component selection, including circuit protection devices, transformers, power supplies, relays, terminal blocks, PLC hardware, and other control panel components.
- Perform basic electrical calculations and engineering evaluations under the direction of an Electrical Engineer.
CAD & Engineering Documentation
- Develop and update electrical schematics and panel layouts using EPLAN.
- Assist with drawing revisions, engineering changes, and documentation updates.
- Produce clear and accurate engineering documentation to support manufacturing.
- Gain experience creating build-ready electrical documentation used directly by the shop floor.
Compliance & Engineering Standards
- Gain practical exposure to UL 508A, NEC, and other applicable electrical standards.
- Assist engineers in verifying that component selections and panel designs meet applicable requirements.
- Learn how short circuit current rating (SCCR), heat dissipation, wire sizing, circuit protection, and physical layout considerations affect control panel design.
Manufacturing & Testing Support
- Work directly with manufacturing personnel to help resolve drawing and design questions during panel fabrication.
- Assist with electrical testing and troubleshooting of completed control panels.
- Support engineers with design updates and corrections identified during manufacturing and testing.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities related to engineering documentation, design practices, and manufacturability.
Education
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering.
- Junior or senior standing preferred.
Electrical & Technical Foundations
- Coursework or practical experience with basic electrical circuits, power distribution, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics or a strong willingness to develop this skill.
- Basic understanding of electrical components such as circuit breakers, transformers, relays, power supplies, and control devices.
- Previous CAD experience is preferred but not required; experience with EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical design software is a plus.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Professional Skills
- Strong attention to detail and interest in producing accurate engineering work.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions and learn.
- Ability to work effectively with engineers, project managers, manufacturing personnel, and other team members.
- Self-motivated and capable of managing assigned tasks with appropriate guidance.
- Comfortable working in both an engineering office and manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Gain
- Hands-on experience designing real industrial electrical control systems.
- Practical experience using EPLAN and creating production-ready engineering documentation.
- Exposure to UL 508A, NEC, and industrial control panel design requirements.
- Experience working directly with manufacturing, testing, and engineering teams.
- Understanding of how an electrical design progresses from customer requirements through engineering, manufacturing, testing, and final product.
- Mentorship from experienced Electrical Engineers working on real customer projects.
Why Join Bevco?
- Work on high-quality, custom industrial control systems in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
- Gain meaningful engineering experience rather than simply observing projects.
- Work alongside experienced engineers and manufacturing professionals.
- Contribute to real-world projects that move from concept to production.
- Build practical electrical engineering skills that complement your university coursework.
If you’re ready to apply your Electrical Engineering education to real-world projects and gain hands-on experience designing and supporting industrial control systems, we’d love to hear from you.
