Sustainability & Energy Intern | New York, NY

Join IMEG as a Sustainability & Energy Intern in New York, NY, and collaborate with experienced engineers and consultants to implement sustainability and energy efficiency measures in buildings. You’ll support sustainable design through energy modeling, daylight and carbon analysis, life cycle cost studies, LEED/WELL/PHIUS/Green Globes certification support, and CFD analysis. Over this 10–12 week internship, you’ll gain hands-on experience working within project budgets and partnering with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities

Support sustainable design practices across the company.

Perform building performance analyses on IMEG projects.

Contribute to green building certifications, including energy modeling, documentation, and leading team certification efforts.

Coordinate design inputs from architecture, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers to inform energy models.

Identify decarbonization strategies, including solar photovoltaic assessments and calculations.

Provide sustainable design recommendations and decisions with guidance from senior staff.

Research and apply current code requirements (LEED, IECC, ASHRAE 90.1) for energy-efficient design.

Prepare and issue reports.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent required

Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Strong interest in sustainability and innovation

Working knowledge of building interior and exterior systems

Working knowledge of green building certifications such as LEED, WELL, Living Building, etc.

Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook

Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Sustainability & Energy Team Highlights

IMEG’s Sustainability & Energy team works on high-impact projects like Ann Arbor Community Geothermal serving 262 homes and a commercial building, with central geo located in a park and distributed via roadways, integrating both Civil and MEP design.

The team’s mission is to reduce carbon emissions and create lasting solutions that benefit future generations.

Students gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools like EnergyPlus, Helioscope, and IMEG’s custom PowerBI and AI platforms.

IMEG is a recognized sustainability leader, contributing to LEED-certified projects and industry initiatives like SE2050 and AIA2030.

The team is almost entirely virtual and collaborates nationwide, offering flexibility and exposure to diverse projects and perspectives.

New York, NY

Salary Range $22.00-24.00hour. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
