Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES) provides energy industry solutions – new equipment, retrofits, maintenance, outage planning and more – for current and future power generation needs in the Americas, including thermal, hydro and nuclear power plants.

Position Summary

We are seeking an Engineering Intern to work out of our West Allis, WI office. This position will be responsible for Engineering activities to learn and understand the operations of the business as it relates to engineering, project management, production operations and/or OEM parts. The Engineering Intern will process small projects, less complicated by nature, under the direction of more experienced engineers and/or managers to learn and understand a wide variety of rotating generating equipment. Work closely with other engineers, shop operations, field operations and project management personnel to understand and assist in the execution of customer service projects.

Essential Duties

  • Become knowledgeable of services and parts as it relates to Toshiba’s base technical and commercial offerings.
  • Become knowledgeable of the business and the roles and responsibilities of the department(s).
  • Learn and understand the job functions and processes used in respective area(s).
  • Participates with other departments and engineers in service/repair discussions in support of proposals or work execution.
  • Work on job assignments with upper-level engineers and managers to learn, retain and demonstrate understanding of the tasks involved.
  • Ability to travel for short periods to job sites throughout North America and Internationally.
  • Complete all assigned tasks, following company processes and procedures.
  • Learn, retain, and demonstrate adherence to company safety practices and policies.

Travel

  • Limited as needed.

Education and Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Mechanical or Electrical preferred
  • Intern experience in a manufacturing or service setting preferred.
  • Above average verbal and written communications skills including familiarity with procedure and process documentation and technical report writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point) is required.
  • Basic understanding in the use of Solid Works and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of document management concepts and computer-based document management systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project desired. Familiarity with and application of finite element analysis is preferred.

Physical Requirements (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.)

The employee must be able to lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

The majority of this work takes place in an office and the work environment is that of a typical office environment in a manufacturing setting where noise levels are usually moderate. Frequently the employee will interact with personnel in the plant where he/she may be exposed to higher noise levels.
