Student Success Story- Letian Ying

Letian Ying is a Junior Mechanical Engineering major and was hired by Milwaukee Tool as a Motors Engineering intern for the summer of 2023.

What did you work on this summer? As a part of the motors team in the Outdoor Power Equipment department, I had a primary project where I applied my mechanical engineering skills to improve the efficiency of motor design and selection in new product development. Additionally, I conducted tests and provided support for various projects, including teardowns, testing and assembly tasks when they were needed.

What’s the best thing about your job?  There were two things that I really enjoyed about my internship. First, I really liked that I had plenty of chances to tackle various challenges under expert guidance, making the learning process both genuine and productive. Second, I was able to see my contributions be integrated into the business which was really fulfilling.

What’s great about your company?  The employees at Milwaukee Tool were genuinely eager to support one another in achieving collective and individual success. The company also values open and candid communication, encouraging team members from all roles to freely express their opinions and ideas, which enhances innovation and drives positive change throughout the organization.

How did you find your internship opportunity?  I found my internship at the MSOE Career Fair.

How did the Career Connections Center help you with your internship search? The Career Connections Center advanced my professional development by assisting me in refining my resume, expanding my professional network on Handshake and Linkedin and by helping me with my communication skills.
